PENFOLDS BIN 707 1996 - A SUPERB VINTAGE RATED 5*****

This bottle was purchased in August 2013 with the damaged label, but the capsule is in great condition and the main details remain on the label.

The 1996 Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon may well turn out to be one of the best of the last two decades - complex and firm with superb balance and character. Cabernet from Coonawarra contributes strength and firmness of structure, while the Barossa component adds mouth-filling richness, resulting in a completeness of structure and flavour

Full red-purple; concentrated, ripe, cassis and blackberry fruit leaps from the glass, with oak present but trailing behind. The palate is as rich, ripe, succulent and concentrated as the bouquet suggests, redolent with cassis, and long, lingering tannins. (7/2011)

TASTE DESCRIPTION
Medium-deep crimson. Praline, demi-glace and slightly tarry aromas with accompanying cassis leafy notes. Rich and concentrated with ample mocha, demi-glace, waxy polish, redcurrant cassis flavours, fine bittersweet tannins and roasted walnut notes. Finishes chalky/almost feathery. A very well-balanced wine with attractive density and fruit power.

WHEN TO DRINK
Drinking well, but will improve with time. Peak drinking now to 2045.
