Description

The very first release of Penfold's RWT (AKA Red Winemaking Trial) No trial now its allocation only so rare and as a 1st vintage a collectors item anyway - its from the seductive Shiraz grown in the west of the Barossa Valley and will drink now or keep/improve for some while.

An effortlessly beautiful Penfolds Shiraz with superb integration and so approachable its like velvet hence RWT is one of the best and most popular/rare.

Penfolds RWT Shiraz is also a single region Barossa Valley Shiraz matured only in French oak. Its style is opulent and fleshy, contrasting with Grange, which is more muscular and assertive. Not a weak alternative but a fruity full bodied subtle style hence it moved rapidly from a trial to a style that features on the top table of Penfolds wine and shows Barossa Shiraz at the highest level.

"Medium red-purple; the very elegant bouquet has savoury/spicy overtones to the cherry/plum fruit, supported by subtle French oak. The palate is no less elegant, with savoury/chocolate/berry flavours supported by fine tannins and similarly classy oak." James Halliday

This is for 3 full 750ml bottles of RWT 1997

………the levels are superb and into the neck as shown in the picture – these have been stored carefully in my Eurocave and as can been seen from the picture have the original wrappers (although a bit tatty now) with slight condensation on the bottle from the cellar when I removed to photo the bottles the lables and everything are in superb condition and the wine better!!
