Description

An extravagantly full-flavoured Rasteau on a huge scale. This is 90% grenache and 10% syrah. A big winter warmer of a wine. 2012–2018.

The Wine Society described the Southern Rhone 2007 vintage thus:
"There hasn’t been a vintage like this since 1990. Everything was perfect, with just enough rain to see the vintage through. And, like 1990, the Mistral played a crucial part, especially in September when it kept the skies blue till the last grapes were picked. In style, the two vintages are similar, but, if anything, 2007 is on an even grander scale."

Robert Parker described it thus:
The Wine Advocate - "The 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau La Ponce (70% Grenache and 30% Syrah) reveals a smoky, chocolaty, meaty character as well as abundant quantities of black cherry jam displayed in a full-bodied, sensationally concentrated, dense, chewy style that saturates the palate. The vintage’s greatness is noticeable in the noble, ripe tannins and stunning length. This serious wine should age for 10-15 years. Readers should be on the lookout for the wines from this superb estate. None other than the brilliant southern Rhone oenologist Philippe Cambie is the consultant at Domaine des Escarvailles" 93 points
