Description

I am auctioning a single bottle of the superb Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 1997 from the Napa Valley. Mary Novak's Cabernets are always elegant and long-lived; carrying a moderate level of alcohol at 13 per cent, it has a delightful nose of cassis and mint.

The wine was bought on release by me and has been stored in a Eurocave since then. The label is a bit marked as you can see from the photo but the level is perfect, well into the neck and the capsule is in excellent condition.

The 1997 isn't showing on Winesearcher.com but the 98 and 00, both lesser vintages in Napa, are on sale at £118 a bottle.

For a review from ST:

Bright violet-ruby color. Spicy aromas of boysenberry, cassis and violet. Lush, dense and fine, with flavors of blueberry and blackberry pie. Quite suave and understated, but shows excellent depth of flavor. Finishes with rather soft, sweet tannins and subtle length. 91-93pts
