Description

Opaque, intense, youthful, soft entry, crisp fruit, hard finish. A glorious wine for future drinking. ***** 2010-2030 Michael Broadbent.

100/100. Unquestionably the greatest young port I have ever tasted. It represents the essence of what Vintage Port can achieve. This is a massive, magnificently rich, full bodied Port. It possesses awesome fruit, marvellous intensity and a lavish opulence, all brilliantly well delineated by the wine’s formidable structure, now-2035. Robert Parker

The first declaration for Taylor since the 1985 Vintage and only the second to be given a perfect 100 (1948 was the other). It was listed 18th out of 10,000 wines tasted that year by the Wine Spectator.

Spectacular Cellartracker notes:

3/1/2014 - PETITBLANC WROTE:94 Points
Taylor Vintage Port Vertical (Los Angeles, California): Very dark, almost black, faintly cloudy, with garnet flashes at the rim. After 3 hours in the glass, the nose started to open. But on the palate, the concentration of blue and black fruits is stunning. Pure, primary, lightly peppery, very persistent through the finish. Fine structure also, with massive tannins and juicy acidity. A great Port, still very young and linear, to cellar for decades. 11 hours in decanter.
12/14/2013 - THELOSTVERSE WROTE:95 Points
Opened by R&D at their caroling party. Drinking extremely well upon pop 'n pour. Dark fruits and some violet/floral notes. Tannins are well integrated, but still there. Mrs. TLV scored it more in the 97-98 point range.
12/14/2013 - ALLRED WROTE:97 Points
A late last bottle our hosts graciously opened after most of the guests had left, this was just beautiful and a great way to end the evening. Popped and poured, this was elegant with aromas of violets and lavender, potpourri, cassis, blackberry, brown sugar and plum. Flavors of plums, cassis, licorice, blue fruit and kirsch, with chocolate and caramel nuances on the lingering finish. Lovely, and though it will no doubt last many years, it is drinking very well now.
9/25/2013 - ANONYMOUS LIKES THIS WINE:99 Points
This was a superb capstone to our tasting of RP/WS 100-pt rated wines. By the time we got to the port, our taste buds were pretty well exercised. But even at that late moment in the evening, it stood out as an exceptional, structured but generous port - the best I ever remember tasting. I would drink this wine any place, any time, at any point in a meal or without food.

9/18/2011 - OUTLIER WROTE:97 Points
This was not so impressive right out of the bottle, but as the evening wore on this wine really came together and became striking. It took on an amazing precision and depth. One of the very best ports I've had.
12/27/2010 - BOTRYTISVIRTUOSO1819 WROTE:100 Points
nose; minerals, cassis, black licorice, and violets. palate: blackberries, raisins, dutch chocolate, and caramel. High tannins, 75 plus second finish, still just a baby, this has many decades of life left. The best bottle of port I have ever had.
