CLASSIFICATION
IGT (Typical Geographical Indication) Red Isola dei Nuraghi.
PLACE OF ORIGIN
Turriga estate in the countryside of Selegas-Piscina Trigus, 230 metres above sea level.
SOIL
Medium limestone composition, some pebbles and stones, loose rocky layers.
GRAPE VARIETIES
Cannonau, Carignano, Bovale Sardo, Malvasia Nera.
CLIMATE
Mediterranean, mild winters, limited rainfall, very hot and windy summers.
HARVESTING
By hand, in the early morning.
VINIFICATION TECHNIQUE
Painstaking selection of the grapes. Fermentation at controlled temperature 28-32°C. Maceration for about 16-18 days with good use of the delestage technique. 18-24 months in new French oak barriques.
REFINING
For 12-14 months in the bottle.
TASTING NOTES
Colour: Intense ruby red.
Nose: rich, complex bouquet
Palate: very well structured, balanced, fine and persistent. Very smooth.
FOOD MATCHES
Stewed boar, furred game, spicy red meats, mature Sardinian pecorino cheese.

Robert Parker note The 2005 Isola dei Nuraghi Turriga is incredibly primary at this stage. This dark, textured Turriga reveals impressive weight in its dark fruit, but the bouquet remains rather reticent. Sweet herbal and floral notes resonate on the finish. Today the 2005 remains a fruit-driven Turriga in need of at least another few years in bottle. Turriga is one of the thoroughbreds of the south. Readers who want to learn about this fascinating red may want to look at my recently published vertical on www.erobertparker.com. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025. Argiolas is a great starting point for readers who want to discover the breadth of Sardinian wine. From top to bottom this is an impressive line-up that showcases the unique voices of the island’s indigenous grapes. Even better, most of the wines remain exceptional values.
