Description

This lot consists of two half-bottles, one from Chile and one from Australia:

1)Undurraga Vino de Cosecha Tardia, Maipo Valley, 1997
Made from botrytised late-harvested Semillon grapes, and aged in French Oak barrels. 13.5% alcohol.

2)Vasse Felix Noble Riesling, Western Australia, 2000
Made from botrytised late-harvested Riesling grapes. 11.0% alcohol.
The dark colour seems to be a characteristic of this particular wine. Here's a recent Cellartracker note for the 1996 vintage:
"This botrytised riesling is the color of Newcastle brown ale in the glass. Aromas of apricot jam, peach blossom, dried pineapple and molasses. The palate is full and sweet, with medium acid. The caramel and cinammon flavors are really strong in this wine, and they overwhelm some of the nuances of the fruit. That said, it's rich, hedonistic, full of flavor and it goes down easy. There's an almost carrot cake richness and sweetness that lingers on the finish. It's not every day I get to drink an Australian dessert wine, and even if it's a lot different than the German wines I'm used to, it's still fun."
