Description

One pristine bottle of "Spain's first growth".

Spain's one true aristocratic estate, with a proud lineage and a history of wines that redefined greatness in Spanish wine. Founded in 864 on limestone hills 730 metres above the sea level. Planted with Bordeaux varietals imported from Chateau Lafite together with the local Tinto Fino, there are nearly 20 hectares in production. Three wines are produced here, Valbuena, an earlier released wine, Unico, the top wine, released after around six years with extroadinary ageing potential and Reserva Especial, an unusual blend of old Unico vintages and younger wines.

Robert Parker 97pts "The 1996 Unico is from what the Vega Sicilia team calls “an icon vintage”. Medium purple in color, it emits a lovely perfume of smoke, mineral, Asian spices, balsamic, and assorted black fruits. Elegant, savory, and intense on the palate, it has enough underlying structure to evolve for another decade and drink well through 2036."
