Description

Vines have been cultivated at Weingut Robert Weil for four generations. The founder of the estate, Dr. Robert Weil, purchased the first vineyards on the Kiedricher Berg in 1867. As of 1875, in addition to his work as a journalist, Dr. Robert Weil expanded his wine estate by acquiring the finest parcels of the Kiedricher Berg. Thanks to his uncompromising, quality-oriented viticultural philosophy, the estate advanced quickly and its wines were soon distributed internationally. The wines from this prestigious estate were often served in royal courts and top restaurants as the white alternative to red Bordeaux.

The estate holds 90 hectares of vineyard represented solely for Riesling. A wine's quality and distinctive identity are shaped in the vineyard. Weingut Robert Weil's vineyards, which sit on an elevated position along the outliers of the Taunus ridge, are considered among the finest in the Rheingau. The vines range up to over 50 years in age and are planted at a density of 5,000 to 6,000 vines per hectare.
The prices of wines from this estate are not for the faint hearted and here we have a top wine that has a great maturity being the excellent 2002 vintage, almost the vintage of the century!! The pinnacle of wines from this region where the berry are pressed after being left on the vines to be frozen and concentrating the grape juice within. Robert Parker and Wine Advocate gave this wine 98 points with a drinking window up to 2040 +. This is an opportunity to purchase a bottle at greatly reduced price from retail, which would set you back £450-£500.
